Remembering the Boss

I did the entire NY1 “In the Papers” segment on George Steinbrenner. The obituaries, editorials, columns and analysis in all of the papers was excellent. The New York Times, New York Post and New York Daily News deserve the most credit for page upon page of excellent coverage.
A few of the highlights:
NY Times writer Juliet Macur with the story about Steinbrenner’s last long-form interview in 2004.
Bill Madden’s reflection in the Daily News. Madden wrote the book “Steinbrenner: The Last Lion of Baseball”
Joel Sherman in the New York Post, telling readers that the “elder statesman” portrayal is disrespectful to Steinbrenner. This was a man who succeeded because he ruled by fear.
and Maureen Dowd’s New York Times column focuses on the Seinfeld portrayal of Steinbrenner. At one point, the Boss misunderstood a script and thought all the references to “George” were aimed at him.
