Proposing? There’s an App for That

Proposing to your soul mate? There’s an app for that. I read this morning that Tiffany & Co. just announced its new engagement ring app for the iPhone. Now call me crazy, but it seems to me that if a guy can’t muster the effort to go into a physical store to buy an engagement ring, maybe a wedding isn’t the best plan. I was on my soapbox about that this morning on NY1 when my colleague Diane King made a good point. Her theory is that the app is really aimed at women who want to give a boyfriend some guidance.
According to the press release, a finger sizer lets you find your exact size, then users are “given creative authority” to customize their perfect ring from six different carat sizes. I find it hard to believe that many men will be wiling away their free time worrying about whether platinum or white gold makes a square-cut diamond pop more. The program also lets any rings that you design to be uploaded to Facebook or Twitter, creating a modern way to drop an age-old hint.
