Prediction: Why Scotty Will Win “American Idol”

For my six and nine-year-old daughters, it wasn’t really a contest on “American Idol” last night.  They wanted to vote for a girl and Lauren Alaina was their pick.  But I dialed Scotty McCreery’s number after watching the final three performances.  And here’s why I’m betting he’s the winner:

1) Despite a surprising wave of pro-Lauren comments at the end of the show from the judges, it was a pretty evenly matched finale. Few minds would have been changed.

2) Scotty was never singled out to be in the bottom tier of vote-getters. It’s clear he had a strong fan base.

3) Teenaged girls like to vote multiple times. Scotty is a cute teenaged boy.

4) Perhaps the best clue of all. When my kids were dialing to vote (once each) for Lauren they got through on either the 2nd or 3rd try. It took me 14 redials to register a vote for Scotty. Maybe I was unlucky. Or maybe his phone line was more popular.

The winner will be announced tonight at the end of the drawn-out (but star-studded) two-hour “American Idol” finale.
