Pat Kiernan, Cordless Drill Fanatic

Most of you know me as Pat Kiernan, NY1 anchor. But little did you know I have another career: cordless drill fanatic. Actually, you would probably know that if you’ve invited me to your wedding in the last decade—it’s my go-to gift when a buddy is getting married, whether it’s made an appearance on the registry or not.

The New York Times has an article in its home section today, singing the praises of the cordless drill and I swear the quotes could’ve been written by me.  Writer Adam Bryant says he was a bit chagrinned when his wife “sold [him] out to the Home Depot guy” and bought a power drill, but now he can’t stop using it. In fact, he says he’s doing chores he’s avoided for years just as an excuse to use it.

I completely understand.  It is the essential tool. I don’t have a particular favorite but I do think the 18-volt model strikes the right balance between price and power. And I usually try to buy a kit with two batteries. You can check out the two I found on Amazon below, or, if you’re feeling thrifty, I guess you could just invite me to your wedding.
