Olympic Notebook: Canada’s Gold Medal

While I’ve been in Vancouver, one of tne of the story lines that’s been everywhere in US and Canadian reporting has been Canada’s failure to win a gold medal at either the Montreal Summer Olympics or the Calgary Winter Olympics. I’m quite glad that the quest has been fulfilled early because the stories were already starting to get tiresome.
Yesterday afternoon, men’s freestyle skiier Alex Bilodeau placed first, leading to this morning’s “The Wait is Over” headline in the Vancouver Sun.
And despite the fact that I was tired with the stories about waiting, it was still a great moment. Particularly because it wasn’t widely expected.
