Guide to the Oscars
Friday, 05 March 2010 | by Pat's Picks
The Oscar buzz has been percolating for months and now that the day is almost here, We’ve been posting Oscar stories from every angle all week, so I thought a little round up of Oscar-related stories was in order.
PREDICTIONS
USA Today made some predictions about who will and who should win come Sunday. In the Best Picture category, the paper gives ?The Hurt Locker? both a will and a should nod. Ditto for Katheryn Bigelow in the Best Director category. Speaking of, the LA Times says if the ?Hurt Locker? ends up with an award for Best Picture, it will be the first conflict-themed film to do so in 25 years.
Roger Ebert prints his predictions in the Chicago Sun-Times and says if you outguess him, you’ll win a prize.
FORGOT THE NOMINEES?
Now that there are ten nominees in the Best Picture category, it?s getting a little difficult to remember who is up for which Oscar. Luckily, the LA Times has a great interactive map of all this year?s contenders, complete with a small summary of what you should know about each. Each pop-up window also has links to stories the paper has written about the specific film or actor, making it an essential bookmark for Oscar season.
LAST WALTERS SPECIAL
Be sure to tune in early (or watch late if you’re on the West Coast) because this will be the final year for the Barbara Walters pre-Oscar interviews. Her age is one factor, but the New York Times says Walters feels like Hollywood stars are interviewed everywhere, making it tough for her to break new ground. For her finale, Walters will sit down with nominees Mo?Nique and Sandra Bullock.
OSCAR PARTY IDEAS
Consider mixing up some Avartinis if you’re hosting an Oscar party this year. The San Jose Mercury News says with ten movies nominated in the Best Picture category, the possibilities for film-themed food are virtually endless. Beyond blue cocktails, the paper suggests German sausages in honor of ?Inglorious Basterds? or Middle Eastern food for fans of the ?Hurt Locker.?
