Five stories dominated the front pages this morning. Results of an internal investigation into the Detroit terrorism incident found major security failures, said President Obama as he vowed to strengthen the nation’s defenses. This was the top story in 25 of the top 30 newspapers this morning. Following closely behind with 20 front-page headlines was Alabama’s defeat of Texas in the Rose Bowl. Getting 18 mentions each were Jay Leno’s possible return to a late-night slot and the winter weather that continues to batter much of the nation. Fourteen newspapers covered the EPA’s new suggested limits on smog.
