A 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, in which scores of people are feared to have died, was the most widely reported story across the nation today, with all but two in our top 30 newspapers running related headlines. The New York Post chose instead to put Conan O’Brien and an editorial criticizing the President on its front page; the Chicago Sun-Times opted for local coverage of policing and sports. Conan O’Brien’s public refusal to be assigned a midnight time slot in the NBC late-night reshuffle appeared on 24 front pages, while Google’s serious consideration of pulling its business from China made ten.
