News that Senate Democrats will be forced to drop the Medicare expansion proposal in order to reach party consensus was reported in 14 papers this morning. Eleven newspapers led with coverage of President Obama’s sit down with bankers, where he encouraged lending to small businesses as a way to jump start the economy. Appearing on 11 front pages was news that Guantanamo detainees will be moved to a near-empty prison in Illinois.
