News that Toyota faces a fine of $16.4 million for not acting quickly enough to recall malfunctioning vehicles appeared on 22 front pages, while coverage of Tiger Woods’ return to the Masters ran on 21. A coal mine blast in West Virginia that killed 25 is the worst in the nation since 1984, reported 20 newspapers. Eleven publications printed coverage of attacks on the US Consulate and a pro-American political party in Pakistan that resulted in 50 deaths. Obama’s clarification of his new nuclear policy appeared on nine front pages.
