The biggest story today, appearing in 25 of the top 30 newspapers, was the grilling Goldman Sachs’ executives received at the hands of a Senate committee investigating allegations of fraud. The worsening oil spill off the Gulf Coast made headlines in 10 newspapers, while reports that the market has dropped due to bad debts in Europe received nine. Eight newspapers ran articles on the backlash building against Arizona’s recently passed immigration law. The same number reported that Oklahoma has enacted strict abortion laws, one of which is already being challenged. Seven newspapers provided coverage of a fracas in the Ukraine legislature yesterday, in which lawmakers threw eggs, smoke bombs and even punches.
