The Spider-Man reviews are in—take two. They are better this time though fall quite short of rave. In general, the critics seemed to be giving the troubled show the benefit of the doubt despite it’s many false starts and foibles.
The Wall Street Journal calls it “the best looking mediocre musical ever to open on Broadway.”
The Washington Post says it’s a “definite upgrade”
The New York Daily News notes that it’s “more cohesive and streamlined and funnier than before” but still “weighed down by so-so songs.”
The New York Post says Spider-Man gets closer to the target but that target has been “both broadened and lowered.”
Newsday calls it “Cirque du Spider for children with moderate attention spans.”
NY1’s Roma Torre says the show is “much improved” but still “can’t decide what it is.”
And the New York Times says it’s “no longer ungodly ... it’s just a bore.”
