Butt Dial Statistics

The Ottawa 911 system received 27,000 butt dials in 2010. I’ve been thinking about butt dials ever since I read about one a couple weeks back that prompted a 30-person SWAT team response. And apparently, I’m not alone. There are scores of videos on YouTube chronicling the mis-dial misfortunes of many—there’s even audio from a solider who butt dialed his parents during a battle in Afghanistan.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer pulled together some interesting statistics on the practice, like the fact that 10 percent of all calls to Toronto’s 911 are, in fact, butt dials.  They even found one NSFW video. Turns out, accidentally calling your friends during sex is more embarrassing than inadvertently dialing 911.
